Description

This route starts out well. Cross over the road going past the Metro Station then join a track which follws the line of the railway line. At this time of year it was quite muddy with puddles of standing water. You begin walking past yards, allotments and pasture. You cross a road then follow the path through a wooded section. Then take a left turn crossing another road and follow the path signed as a cycle path to Brockley Whins. You walk on a good path through rough pasture. You then walk through a housing estate before crossing under the railway line and turning right to walk beside it for some time.
There is a short flight of steps leading down to the busy A19 but I could not see any way of crossing here as the route suggests. There a fences and barriers to stop any pedestrian access to the very fast moving traffic. I noticed a footbridge 360m to my right so I follwed the path to the bridge and crossed in safety.
At the end of the bridge I had to make a decision whether to walk down the side of the A19 and join up with the original route at the railway line or continue straight on and join the orginal route further on. I chose the second option which I have added at Jareas two.
I re-joined the route at the start of a pathway signed to Primrose. This path follows the course of the River Don into Jarrow passing the Primrose Nature Reserve. This like most of this walk is shared with Cyclists.
The route then left the river and went through some streets to reach the destination

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.
