Help connect Whitnash

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Whitnash’s Slow Ways.

Upon leaving Southam, I did find an official notice (photo 1) which advises that path will be closed till the end of 2024, so that was confirmation for me to take route two. When they do eventually reopen the route, you'll be taking the footbridge as opposed to the route to the right in my 2nd photo. After crossing the B4452, the route heads west between a farm and Ufton wood (photo 6). Eventually, the route arrives at Ufton, where if you've timed your walk right and if you so wish, the White Hart pub is an excellent place to grab refreshments. On leaving the lias ridge of Harbury via steps cut into the hill (photo 15), you have to cross an oft used lane to gain access to a path through Lower Westfields Farm (photo 10) which has horses and donkeys grazing on the path. Whichever route you do take over Crown Hill or through the farm, both routes re-join on the other side of the hill and then takes you past the intriguingly named Isle of Wight barn, before heading through pasture and a stud farm as you travel towards Whitnash....

Five stars given as this is an effective way to walk from Royal Leamington Spa to Whitnash and is true to SlowsWays aim to allow people to "to walk or wheel between neighbouring settlements". It is not the most inspiring route but, unless walking a much more circuitous route, it is the best way to get between these two places....

There are some lovely little villages on the route, namely Lighthorne & Chesterton. I couldn't find the route from the car park by the Lighthorne Pavillion Cafe. Also, if you're not too bothered with purity of sticking to the exact mapped route, I would recommend taking a diversion from walking the mapped route through Pounce Hill Farm, and take the route over Crown Hill instead....

Walk this route

I think it is the best route possible between the two locations and has some really pleasant areas, especially on the Warwick half of the walk. I did the walk in the evening outside of the working day so it was relatively quiet on the roads....

The only reason I give it more than one star is because it is the quickest and most direct walking route between the two points....

Fine route, nothing special, probably no better way....

However it was basically just walking on the pavement beside the road the whole way. Probably no better way....

Not a very nice route as it's main road but there's pavement all the way and it's in town so the best you've got....
