Walking out of WoT to the river is along quiet well-to-do suburbs. Along and over the river is also lovely, I stopped for lunch in the Marina café which I can recommend....

Potential for awkward mud on parts of Molesey Heath which could affect wheeled users, but there's a simple pavement alternative that runs just outside the heath on the west and north sides. As my photos show you can encounter significant mud on Molesey Heath - walking boots recommended. Leaving Molesey Heath you hit a mile-plus of roads, although this route improves on Walkin one by finding more green paths to follow into Walton...

From Walton, you first go through a churchyard (photo #1) before following some residential streets and along a path with a fence on each side (allotments, and recreation ground, photo #2), followed by more residential streets. Once you leave the river, there is a stretch through the streets (photo #9) of East Molesey, with refreshments (photo #8)....

Originally I continued onto Felix Lane, with a narrow footpath behind a line (photo #4), which then goes through the River Ash Estate (photo #4, #6) around the south side of the marina. After crossing the bridge (photo #7) through a loopy twizzle, the route then continues along the Thames (photo #8, #9), and then up some steps (photo #10) to finish in the centre of Walton....

It is an otherwise good route, but there was a closed gate near the marina, where River Ash Estate meats Penny Lane near the Sea Cadets. It's not a public right of way here. I've uploaded Walsun 4, that solves this problem, where you'll also find my full review....

There were some less pleasant concrete bits (photo #6), but they were few, and soon replaced by lovely views (photo #8) of the River Mole (photo #9). The last section into Esher was full of traffic again....

The first section in Weybridge is a little annoying due to road, but soon it starts following lovely paths (photo #1, #2), along the Engine River (photo #3). The (short) section along the Thames is nice (photo #4), but then unfortunately the section towards the finish requires some walking next to traffic (photo #5, #6)....

Ashford is a major connecting node in the Slow Ways network, where a number of green belt routes pass through, but it does sprawl with limited ‘off road’ options, especially on the London side. Setting off from Ashford station, the Ashford end can’t really be changed: it’s along busy B roads, mostly wide pavements, albeit with some pavement parking, which is the general way it seems nowadays. From here there’s a mix of grassy path and pavement as far as Walton Bridge....

The riverside section is busy with people doing marina-y sorts of things; there’s a section across fields, and a long shaded footpath connecting into Sunbury. There are plenty of other reasons to access the area, including a hotel and marina, and plenty of people going to and fro, and I didn’t feel at all that this was a ‘no go’ area....

I partly explored the Cottimore Lane alternative to Ambleside Avenue, as suggested by the previous reviewer; this is a pleasant unpaved footpath alternative to what is a quite well used local road (with a fair bit of pavement parking on one side of the road). One or two places on the route had cycle barriers narrowing the path (photo), and this along with the persistent pavement parking could make this one tricky for wheelchairs....

An alternative route may be considered through Cottimore Lane running to the north of Walton Oak Primary School that avoids a moderate spell on Ambleside Avenue but that would be less direct....

Potential for awkward mud on parts of Molesey Heath which could affect wheeled users, but there's a simple pavement alternative that runs just outside the heath on the west and north sides. But keep heading north and east and you'll inevitably get to the desired footbridge exit closest to Hampton. Hampton Bridge area has refreshment stop options there are free loos and shelter at Hampton Court railway station (no ticket needed)....

The part that took you down Felix Lane, went via River Ash Private Estate to Walton Bridge, but it was possible to walk through this - one part had a notice saying that a gate would be locked one day a year meaning you wouldn't be able to use that bit of the route on that day. On leaving Walton Bridge to access Walton town centre the plotted route was not feasible as it took you down a dead end with a private house at the end....

I would suggest a slightly altered route and that would be to head down to the river bank on the Walton side and head towards Hampton Court direction and then over the footbridge at the entrance of Walton Marina and turn right up the broad steps to River Mount and continue straight up Bridge Street to the traffic lights....

The section from the river at Elmbridge Canoe Club could be an issue for those using mobility aids as there are 2 Kissing Gates on path however an alternative route heading towards Weybridge would be continuing along by the river towpath and then follow Thames Street under to the Weybridge waymark. At the Walton end, it would be better to towpath until the broad steps up to River Mount and Thames Street to the Walton waymark....
