Starting in Crewe means following a busy main road until reaching Haslington. The path on this side of the canal and the following woods has been significantly improved by the work of volunteers in the Sandbach Woodland and Wildlife group....

The route has been re-routed around the quarry, but the path is clearly marked with waymarkers. A very enjoyable walk mainly over fields/bridlepaths. Numerous stiles involved with only minimal road walking on minor roads....

A pleasant route through flat Cheshire countryside, with a good stretch along a former railway line. Well described by the first reviewer so not much to add. Accessible for dogs and prams, especially along the railway line, part of a route formerly carrying salt from the Cheshire salt mines....

Walking part of it on a subsequent date the first half mile on the towpath was hampered by fishermen, some of whom had their fishing tackle obstructing the canal towpath....

A short bit of pavement walking took us high over the Salt Line former railway track, which we then walked down to along a track, which started immediately after the bridge, down the side of a garage. Unfortunately the railway line soon after here has been subsumed by a golf course, but the route easily diverts onto the towpath for just over a mile. Just before a farm access bridge before the motorway, there is a kissing gate, then a footpath and a short bit of quiet road which leads to the Salt Line again....

The route from pretty (but lacking in facilities) Alsager Station started along fairly busy road with pavements, but got a lot quieter after leaving the A road, eventually becoming a track leading up to the towpath at Rode Heath, next to a pub. The quiet road into Sandbach initially had no paving, but soon reached an attractive row of cottages where the paving started....

I walked through the Quarry and towards the Chimney House hotel which added a bit but wasn't unpleasant...

The footpath has been diverted right, in front of the building. It crosses a farm track and continues until you find a stile on the right....

Once in the village, follow the sign to Crewe golf course, and shortly after that you will be following a route of farm tracks or footpaths through fields....

A safe and direct route using the canal that links the two towns. The canal runs alongside the main road for a large part of the way, so you are never too far away from traffic noise, but nevertheless this is a pleasant easy walk. The towpath is mostly grass and soil, so could get muddy in winter....
