Help connect Rhymney

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Rhymney’s Slow Ways.

Pleasant walking through Rhymney becomes a stroll through farmland and then through barren moorlike hillside before merging onto the roadside and following past opencast coal mining into Merthyr. Useable but while on hillside the path is very difficult to follow directly....

Pleasant, interesting stroll through Tredegar before leaving the village and heading onto open hillside. Sadly, the path marked on OS maps is very much theoretical and so not a very useable route and a little difficult to recommend. Will be creating an alternate....

After crossing the suspension bridge coming out of Treharris, the path goes a couple of miles through the Taff Bargoed Park, which is full of varied scenery, such as ponds, wetlands, reedbeds and woodlands, culminating in the renowned climbing centre. Crossing the road at the end of the park takes you on to the loops and links path into Bedlinog, where there are some interesting info panels on its history, notably the industrial riots in the 1930`s! An excellent walk overall, starting with a nice steady plod gently uphill on the cycle path from Bargoed all the way up to Fochriw and through the beautiful Cwm Darran Park. After walking down Hill Road, it`s a straight forward walk along the main road from Pontlottyn to Rhymney, the last stretch on a footpath parallel to main the road.
