Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

The majority of the climbing from Ambleside to the pass is along a good track (photo 1) which gradually gets steeper towards the pass itself (photo2). The path from the pass down to Patterdale is a little less well defined (photo 3), but still clearly navigable with beautiful views to the rugged head of the Patterdale valley....

Not knowing Ambleside well, finding the correct road out of the town was a bit difficult. The trick is to follow signs for 'Sweden Bridge'....

It is quite a bit easier than AMBPAT1 as the Kirkstone pass is only 454m as opposed to the 616m Scandale pass but they are both very enjoyable walks....
