Latest Updates
After leaving the residential streets of Oxted (photo #1, #2) behind, and going up hill, there is soon an open green area, with a muddy path. Sometimes they were muddy and in woods (photo #3, #5), and sometimes in open areas with sheep in the fields besides you (photo #2)....

It is also safer as it uses the underpass to cross the A22 Godstone by pass which is a busy and dangerous road....
Michael Harman
- A few places with steps, including one surprisingly long section of steep, uneven steps, but there is a good handrail to steady yourself...
Ingrina
I knocked off one star - slightly less direct, motorway noise (inescapable in this area), and some paths were quite steep and slippy (chalk can be when it's wet). Steep and narrow paths, gates and kissing gates, uneven ground and long flights of steps make this unsuitable for wheels....
Strider
Limpsfield village even more picturesque than Westerham, worth a look down the High Street, gallery, old pub, really nice cafe and a few'artisan' type shops....
Daisy C
Great route, well plotted and a pleasant walk. One of the 4 lanes is permanently closed (markings and signage) so its an ad-hoc extension of the 'traffic island' on the median, so the crossing is of two lanes and then one lane between passing cars....
Daisy C
Signage in golf course almost feels deliberately unhelpful, as does the fact they planted trees along and across the line of the right of way....
Daisy C
It is relatively easy but not suitable for wheels or mobility issues as some big steps at Westerham end & some other steep areas. Also it can be very wet & muddy in places & some paths not large & clearly marked, so going through wooded area can be trial & error. Route crosses a couple of unbarricaded roads & passes through/near fields that may have livestock so dogs best kept on leads for at least part of the walk....
Pat Barofka
Pleasant enough route through farmland except from Hurst Green to Oxted where it's through quiet streets....

Crossing the road: I spent a lot of time sorting out the crossing at Halliloo Valley road (2 visits), and trying out different golf course routings; this is possibly the most dangerous road I’ve encountered while reviewing Slow Ways routes - so yes, the route looks a bit weird, but it is as safe as I could make it. It is a little disconcerting that the public footpath signposts across the golf course are sporadic and don’t form a joined up set - it does involve crossing fairways where the path is not obvious, but the route is drawn pretty accurately....
Jane Taylor
A much better route than Catoxt two which it joins at the bottom of Oxted Downs although it's nearly two miles longer....
JohnMyerson
I walked half of this in the rain so the slopes were slippery....

Livestock notes: there may be horses in one field on the slope to the west of Woldingham; at Oxted Downs (National Trust) there is a ‘cattle grazing’ sign at the top of the hill, but no sign of cows when I went through....
Jane Taylor
All the makings of a really good route let down by a dreadfully dangerous road crossing at Halliloo Valley Road, just south of the golf course. If this was a ‘one car a minute’ sort of back road it may be ok; but this is a well used back road, and in the short time I was there, crossing and then taking a photo, I would say 5-7 cars passed by in each direction....
Jane Taylor
It may be just about possible to make it out walking up the hill, but if you are at the top looking down it simply isn’t there, and the hill is too steep and ground too uneven to make following the line on the map a safe decision....
Jane Taylor
There is an minor adjustment I would suggest, instead of taking the path near the barley mow, if you take the path off Jackass Lane you can cross underneath the A22 by Hop Garden Cottage which is much easier....
Andrew Southcombe
A pleasant, enjoyable and reasonably direct walk, with quite a bit of a variety once you escape the Oxted suburbs - from heath to wood, golf course to open fields. It offers good views of the North Downs a lot of the way but is practically always within earshot of traffic on the M25 or A25. The route is mostly well waymarked and easy to follow, but it would be difficult to wheel it due to gates and stiles and some narrow, muddy sections especially after rain....
