Help connect Marazion

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Marazion’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

There are hard surfaces most of the way, but there is a section of sand dune and beach approaching Marazion which would not be wheelchair friendly (photo). The road into Marazion along the road has narrow pavement, and you may prefer to stay on the beach a bit further to avoid....

The map seems to show that it follows roads and railways but it is really not busy with noise, and your eyes are inevitably turned out to sea....

This is a great walk with just a few things to watch; some of the stone styles do not have large footholds so you may need to be reasonably nimble especially if you are balancing more than a daysack on your back. A few of the farmland footpaths do not seem to get much use and are not super clear so just watch for them, they are all perfectly passable. At the Hayle end of the walk the path round Carnsew Pool is very rough but Hayle has beautiful wetlands so fine if walking conditions are okay....

Access the path at the bottom of the car park below Penzance station, that bit looks a bit dull but you soon pass the station and get out onto brighter paths....

Walk this route

I walked this route on a dry summers evening and it was very pleasant. The route is front-loaded with elevation, with a fairly steep walk up quiet lanes through the back of Marazion....

Walk this route

We did take a car at either end approach rather than public transport but Marazion is on the bus route and Hayle has a train station. We walked from Marazion towards Hayle so we started with the only uphill on the route, which gave fantastic views over the bay....

A beautiful route taking in the sights coast to coast....

Walk this route

Plenty of facilities and sights of interest in Marazion though no train station so if catching the train you’d need to combine with a bus trip in to Penzance....

Perhaps the best thing about this route is the relative directness between Marazion and Helston. It approximates the A road between these two points and it has the characteristics of attempting to follow the ancient route (which is now surely the A road) whist maintaining as much directness between the points....

At low tide many walkers will choose to walk along the beach as an alternative as often the path gets very busy....
