Help connect Looe

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Looe’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

We hired a boat in Looe and sailed up the river that I would have run along and I was gutted not to have been able to make it down to Looe as the scenery and wildlife is stunning. I think at the right time of year this would be a fab route down into Looe, but late August possibly too late as everything has grown up so much!...

I thought this an excellent walk combining some cross country walking with a good stretch of the Coastal Way....

If also planning on stopping over the night looe would be the ideal place for the night and a swim in the sea. A nice simple walk....

The vehicle gate from Tregantle car park to Tregantle Fort was locked, and I suspect it usually is. The access point for pedestrians is on the Military road where you follow a marked path up near the other side of the locked vehicle gate....

The only difficult section is along the B3247 at the end of Sunwell Lane - this is a short section along a relatively busy road and so some caution is needed....

Walk this route

The section from Lostwithiel to Lerryn was already familiar to me and takes down the steep bridleway from Newham Farm and across fields and woodland to. From Lerryn the route progressed through some lovely woodland with stepping stones over some mud. Didn’t really feel comfortable going through the crops so we went round the edge of the next field which took us off route a little. We turned on to a lane but this seemed to lead us through a complex of holiday cottages and there was no obvious route so we walked along the roads to Pelynt via the B3359 ( so we completely missed the route)....

Walk this route

My son and I walked this route at the winter solstice (2021 Dec 21), with one notable difference from the route on the Slow Ways web-site: we stayed in the West Looe valley, whereas the Slow Ways route suggests an entirely unnecessary climb and deviation to Duloe before returning to the valley. If this deviation were removed, I would recommend this route. We took 4h23m including two pauses for sustenance....

This route follows the coast path for a significant portion of its length, with all the attendant pluses (well waymarked, lovely views) and minuses (steep and hard work in places, not great in poor weather)....

While this scores full marks for scenery it's a tough schlep for even an experienced walker and in my mind isn't ideal for the Slow Ways network, which predominantly is a means of getting from A to B....

You'll also find food and water at Polperro (endless shops, cafes) and Talland (at most, two). It's flatter between Polperro and Looe, but the other half is demanding on the calves! Otherwise beaches at Lanteglos (with smugglers' cart tracks still visible!) and Talland are nearer the route and gorgeous....
