Help connect Inverness
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Inverness’s Slow Ways.

I walked this route has part of a hike along the Great Glen Way. We started in Inverness and finished in Fort William. Loved this leg....

It's very easy to follow, but as has already been said there is an unpleasant section along the A82 at the Drumnadrochit end, including a small stretch of walking on the verge beside the busy A Road....

I know this route well but have only walked parts of it because I preferred to walk the John O'Groats Trail route via Munlochy and Culbokie on the Black Isle. The slow ways route would take c4.5 hours to walk. Most of it is pretty accessible and on tarmac road but, there is a steady climb up from Redcastle and a piece of rough track then up to the A835.. 3) North Kessock coastal walk - North Kessock, pub, toilets and one shop. Only an occasional bus service and hardly any on a Sunday but, a nice view across the Firth and a tarmacked road all the way along to woods at Redcastle then it becomes an uphill trek inland across to the main Inverness-Dingwall road. This is a busy A road and difficult to cross with fast traffic however, there are good tarmac pavements along the road for use by cyclists/ walkers. Not really pleasant walking though as exposed, uphill, often windy and big traffic thumping past you.. Personally, I wouldn't use this route if I wanted to go for a walk because there is a lot of traffic on the A835 and its fairly exposed in some places though, the Black Isle bridge is impressive and there are good views across the Firth and again later, towards the Highlands....

The path then enters the forestry plantations, where there are only occasional views of Loch Ness (Photo 2). Leaving the Abriachan forest behind, the path follows the minor Inverness road for a few miles through the open moorland (Photo 4). The path follows a variety of tracks through these forests (Photo 6), before emerging on the hills above Inverness (Photo 7). Photo 2 - View across Loch Ness...

This is an easy to navigate and relatively flat route that starts in Inverness centre, and travels through some suburban areas before taking in a couple of long trails through forests, then ending on the main road for the last three-and-a-half miles. The last bit on the road, taking up about a quarter of the route, led to me taking off a couple of stars and not verifying this Slow Way....

1) Much of this route is very good off-road, in Culloden Forest, High Wood and down the River Nairn from Cawdor.....
