Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Flitwick’s Slow Ways.

The route is described as Flitwick to Luton but the gpx file is Luton to Flitwick. Another point to note is on the route turning north west from Higham Bury towards Hermitage Lane which meets the Westoning Road. After passing this you can easily get back onto Hermitage Lane and to the Westoning Road as per the route....

There is also one busy roundabout which has a steep footbridge over it but there is an alternative way across on the other side of the road but this might be tricky at busy times as there are no pedestrian crossing lights. This is as you come up from the aforementioned roundabout and need to take a left turn off the main road....

Lovely start to the walk through Ampthills green spaces, followed by a lot of walking on pavement alongside the main road. Enjoyed scenery and woodlands of the first half greatly. Second half was why I didn't score it higher....
Hannah
A lovely walk, leading across the fields near Flitwick, after which there is a road crossing which could be tricky in high traffic. Walk continues across fields and residential parts of Ampthill....

Walk this routeOn leaving Ampthill's residential area ,there is a road bridge (photo 6) over the A507 which would present an issue for wheels, but you can just cross via the junction by the fuel garage (photo 7) After this point there is a further 2km of pavement walking alongside the busy Flitwick Road, which is tolerable but not overly pleasant....
andy_mackay
On approach to Maulden Road, things get a little less clear, as the trail isn't marked on the ground and the map says it follows the road north....

Would be suitable for dogs and an all terrain buggy but not for wheelchairs or mobility scooters as the paths through Flitwick Moor and some other stretches are narrow....
Val Thompson
This is a straightforward and pleasant route that takes you from Flitwick to Ampthill ion Bedfordshire....

From Houghton Regis the route heads out into open country, following the Chiltern Way for a substantial part of the route with some fine views and passing through the pretty village of Harlington, which has a cafe and two pubs....

The simplest is to just continue on the road out of Tingrith follow it under the motorway and then turn right and follow the road and pick up the original route taking the footpath on the left to Priestley Farm. An alternative which would be a bit longer uses an earlier footpath out of Tingrith in a southerly direction to go meet a path which goes over the motorway and from there a mix of footpaths will also bring you to Priestley Farm - I used some of those on my diversion but not all....

Used the OS Map to follow the route as there are quite a few footpaths going in different directions. With the map it was pretty easy to follow....

The route follows a footpath marked on the OS map that connects Tingrith to Redcaps, however I could find no path that crosses the field and goes under the M1....

Here there is a little road walking but quickly you get onto footpaths that take you through Crawley Park lands with some nice views, then through a small wood before on through fields of sheep onto the Crawley Road. There is then a stretch along the road here before you cut off on a footpath through fields and then up Lydds Lane into Ridgmont. From Ridgmont you take a footpath to Segenhoe church and then on through fields down to a road....

Short on-road section at Mill End on the busy Harlington - Barton road includes a dangerous blind bend with no pavement and little room for pedestrians, but there is no obvious alternative route to avoid it....
