Help connect Dalkeith

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Dalkeith’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

Walking through the golf course at the beginning looked a bit off-putting (there are 'private' signs) but it's definitely open for walkers and I didn't need to avoid any golf balls!! As another reviewer mentioned, there is a tricky road crossing at New Battle Viaduct - it's better to walk further up the road and come back along the other side to avoid the fast blind bend....

Walk this route

Takes you through some pretty bits around Musselburgh and Inveresk, and then a pleasant walk through Dalkeith Country Park....

Walk this route

Good paths throughout, though the riverside path approaching Musselburgh can be muddy after heavy rains. Only the short section from Smeaton to Whitecraig is on pavement by a busy road. There's good public transport either end of the route....

Walk this route

The only challenging part is crossing the road at Lothian Bridge, which is a fast road on a bend....
