Connect Crowthorne with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Crowthorne to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Crowthorne’s Slow Ways.

The trainline bridge was just about manageable by carrying the buggy over although my 3 year old got out so I could carry it over....

Some wooded area with roots and some shingle down Hancombe Road (although I think you could go an alternative way around Little Sandhurst to avoid this if you wanted to go on pavement instead of shingle)....

Locals told me the road east may be used out of term time for a detour to The White Horse pub on the Easthampton Road. There is some street walking into the centre of Crowthorne, which has plenty of amenities....

Crowthorne is at much higher altitude than Sandhurst which can make a difference at the end of an already long walk. Even the forest part of the route is relatively easy to walk on with no major obstacles....

My only word of caution is to watch out not just for passing vehicles in the last stretch along Bracknell road down to Crowthorne but also cyclists who also ride on the pavement right next to the busy road....

Route is easy to follow and apart from the steep gradient no particular obstacles or difficulties. A more direct route on the lit, wide pavement next to the main road between Sandhurst and Crowthorne is a good alternative....

The whole route is on excellent paths, almost all with lighting. The noise and traffic of the southern part of the route is made up for by the pleasant design of the paths into Bracknell. The photos show (1) the route to the underpass under the A322 (2) The construction of a new pedestrian crossing at the Golden Retriever and (3) the roundabout coming out of Crowthorne with fast traffic and poor visibility....

It can be a bit muddy at times but the paths are in a pretty good state. There are a few gates to cross and a footbridge over the railway but it is manageable with a pram/bike....
