With the sad exception of a stepped bridge over the rail at Penge East this would have been okay for wheels, some steep parts near Crystal Palace however. There is some urban pavement walking through Penge before entering Crystal Palace Park with a café and dinosaurs....

There are two tiny changes, it uses the safe foot tunnel under the South Circular and explains where the entrance is hidden and, for the joy of it, takes a tiny, signposted detour to see the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs which the majority of reviewers did anyhow....

From Catford station, we take the road underneath and to the left of Catford Road across the river Ravensbourne then follow the road left between the two railways. From Manwood Road our route is almost dead straight for quite a long way, but mixes quiet streets with pedestrian alleyways and a cycletrack bridge over the London to Brighton railway....

We are soon out of the small park using more quiet streets to reach Hither Green station, where we cross the railway using a pedestrian underbridge. I do have one slight quibble with the GPX here - barriers mean that it is not possible to connect the two outer eastern pavements of Rushey Green directly over Brownhill Road and it makes more sense to cross Rushey Green at the near side of this junction using the pelican crossing....

Certainly a hilly route for London - perhaps an alternative route would avoid ascending One Tree Hill as there are a significant number of steps. If you're looking for a break halfway Dulwich Picture Gallery has both great art and a nice cafe!...

If you are thinking of using it at night, the Ladywell Fields section is *relatively* busy at night, pretty good sightlines and street lights. I would use it in the evenings....

It uses quiet roads most of the time and there are some points of interest: the Catford Cat, views along the "Vale of Catford" from the top of Mountsfield Park, the quirky cafe/florist in Hither Green (near the station) and Sutcliffe Park where the River Quaggy has been re-naturalised - if you wander north a little there are wildflower-rich meadows, and boardwalks through the reeds and wet woodland (my favourite part, if that's not clear). You could take Sherard Rd opposite the station then cut through to the big roundabout and come into Sutcliffe Park from the bottom of Eltham Green Road....

It's amostly entirely on quiet residential terraced roads plus two medium sized parks. It's very short but has loads of good midway rest/eat places on Staplehurst Rd and Hither Green Lane....

The section between Lower Sydenham and Lower Beckenham is not clear using the gpx line. I just followed the sustrans signs at this point, through an industrial estate with heavy traffic moving around in different durections. Otherwise the route is very good along the river and easy to follow....

From Catford, the first half goes through Ladywell Fields (where you might see Kingfishers and Mandarin Ducks), and the second half is in a residential area....

Leaving Blythe Hill the route goes through Honor Oak Park, which has plenty of shops and cafes, and passes the overground station. Then it's uphill again. The path up and over One Tree Hill is tarmacked but steep and eventually turns into steps. There are three reasons why it is essential to stop at the summit:. Crossing the road you enter Brenchley Gardens, a linear park which follows the route of a former railway line. However, a better route exists: Dulcat Two, which takes you through the cemetery, then along Overhill Road, and finally through the magnificent Dulwich Park...

It was a straightforward route, it mainly follows the Waterlink Way cycle route and so is easily signposted. It just diverges from the cycle route towards Lewisham station (continuing up Algernon Road instead of turning onto Marsala Road); I would recommend that it be changed to follow the cycle route instead, for ease of navigation....

From Forest Hill Road, then route turns onto the Green Chain Walk through Brenchley Gardens; the path here is uneven. The route currently bypasses Ravensbourne Park Gardens but if you wanted to add some extra greenery this is a nice little park with a small play area....

We walked this route in the opposite direction suggested, so of course if you're coming from Catford station just follow the description the other way round. Turn right upon leaving the station and walk up Bromley High Street. At the top of the High Street turn left into Beckenham Lane and walk down the Hill on the right-hand side of this rather busy road. Just after Valley Primary School on your left, look out for Farnaby Road on your right-hand side. The road curves to the left at the junction with Warren Ave and Bromley Ave, so continue along Farnaby Road and cross the culverted river Ravensbourne. Turn right and follow the signs for the station. Cross the road opposite the station and you will find the entrance to Beckenham Place Park. Turn sharp left, cross the road at the pedestrian refuge and turn right into Braeside. Walk down this steep residential road and either turn left into Overbrae, then right at the bottom onto Worsley Bridge Rd or carry on along Braeside (both quite steep) turn left in to Greycot Road and again right onto Worsley Bridge Rd. You can either carry on along Worsley Bridge Rd to the busy road junction at Southend Lane, or when you cross the small river (the Pool) turn right along the footpath and follow the river which will be flowing on your right-hand side. At the bottom of Meadow View Rd turn left onto Worsley Bridge Rd until you reach Southend Lane. on the right-hand side, cross over Southend Lane at the traffic lights, turn right, then straight away left into Moormead Rd. The River Pool can be quite deep in places so just be careful. About halfway down, just beyond the pumping station you will see a picnic table on your left. If you are walking on the riverbank rather than the cycle track you will eventually have to come up onto the track itself just before the bridge at the confluence between the Pool and the Ravensbourne When you come out to the passageway, you have Catford Bridge station on your right and Catford station on your left...

There are a couple of quicker diversions now on the route which I guess are where paths have been updated since this route was established, but its very self explanatory and you can see the quicker route in your line of sight....

While in London you are obviously mainly going to be on roads I would personally take a longer less direct route using smaller roads in the future as it wasnt particularly nice to walk along....
