Help connect Caerleon
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Caerleon’s Slow Ways.

The alternative is to go take the path through the solar panels field, in which case there is also a tied gate at the end of the lane from the other farm (Pen y Parc Farm), but at least no barbed wire, so easy enough to hop over....

I`m not sure if the route along Llanfrechfa Way is intended to be on the grass verge alongside the road or through the fields just next to the roads, but I took the path through the fields - the paths meet up at the Newport Road bridge anyway. The only other point to highlight is that the bridge over the stream at the bottom of the hill before climbing up the hill into the suburbs of Caerleon is a bit of a mess (Photo 6). Photo 3 - The path under the Newport Road bridge Photo 6 - The bridge over the stream before the hill up into Caerleon...

3) The UVW markers follow the road between Chapel Cottage and Cat's Ash, but I used a path taking a more direct route (not marked but well-trodden) - shown on this route. In wet conditions it may be better to stay on the road.. Follow this path down the slope to the road (just below the pylon); then take the path across the road, which joins the UVW....

From Caerleon, it leads up on the hills overlooking the Usk Valley before descending back to the river near Llantrisant, which it then follows for the most part into the town of Usk. The path then heads back up the hills again through fields with more stunning scenery up and down the valley (photo 3), coming down into the village of Llantrisant. On the final section into Usk across the fields, there is an alternative way that follows the riverside path (Photo 4) instead of following Mill Street into the centre of Usk....

Leaving the centre of Caerleon, the path winds its way through a couple of suburban streets before crossing a bridge over the railway line and then running alongside it past a housing estate and the River Usk flood plain until the railway crosses the river....

If walking from Cwmbran, leave the river path at Miskin Green, then Caernarvon Cres & Llanyravon Way. Then walk up towards the police building - there’s a path on the left leading to the A4042 & lane opposite....

3) At Park Farm there were no footpath markers; I had no problem walking through the yard but had to climb over a gate. Once in the fields, stiles were easy to spot....
