Connect Brixham with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Brixham to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Brixham’s Slow Ways.

There are some short steep climbs on this walk, but the views make it worthwhile. I love the ferry and steam trains at Kingswear. I agree that another route that follows the coast path would be a great addition....

It's easy to follow and the views across the Dart are brilliant....

Walk this routeLeaving Brixham the route follows pavement alongside the A3022 for a short way. From Churston Ferrers though, the route follows the John Musgrave Heritage Trail (JMHT)and follows minor roads and paths. At Greenway the ferry is signposted through the grounds, which is an alternative when the estate is open to the public, although the official route follows the road. From Dittisham the route continues along minor lanes, absolutely cracking unmetalled lanes, and paths. At Bow the official route follows the road, but for a shortcut you could take the stepping stones signed for the Dart Valley Trail although I feared they might be icy and stuck with the road....

The reward is stunning views, frequent benches, comfort stops and refreshments (seasonal) on the main beaches and Fishcombe Cove, and bracing sea air. The wooded stretch from Elberry Cove to Brixham can have muddy stretches following heavy rain in late Autumn, Winter and Spring and is more comfortably walked in boots or stout shoes than light weight sandals. From here the way climbs and meanders largely through lush, deciduous woodland as it follows the cliff contours round Churston and Fishcombe Coves and enters Brixham via Battery Gardens...

Combines woods (between Churston and Elberry) with sea glimpses; and for the rest of the route the sea is ever present by your side. Can swim at Churston beach (just out of Brixham), Elberry, Broadsands (loos and cafes too), Goodrington (stop at the lovely Cantina for a bite to eat) and, as a slight diversion, go round the outside of Roundham Head. Fair amount of ups and downs, so you'll need to be a reasonably fit walker....

From Sharpham you can follow an old tram way (higher route) into Totnes, or take the footpath and meander up and down mainly alongside the Dart....

This is a beautiful route that largely follows the South Devon Coast path but it's let down by difficult mud in places. It can become unpassible in the autumn and winter months unless you don't mind deep, thick sludgy mud. Expect some sections of steep steps and exposed hillside but also beautiful views over the entire bay....
