Help connect Bangor

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Bangor’s Slow Ways.

Easy to follow route around Bangor although it's surprising how steep the city is! Nice coastal path section followed by stunning views from the Menai Bridge. No issues with navigation or access on this route....

Pleasant walk mostly on the old railway line from Bethesda to Bangor (could easily follow this the whole way to avoid Bangor Mountain). Views somewhat lacking on this section compared to the nearby mountains!...

We cross the A5 with care and take the shortcut path straight on down the hill, then detour left past the school and Llandegai church. Eventually we reach the outdoor bathing pool in Llanfairfechan, which we skirt on the right, then use the shortcut to reach Station Road, At the lights we turn left to reach the meeting point outside the Methodist church (barely more than a tin shack painted bright blue....

As an experienced walker, I had no problem with the path over Bangor Mountain and there should be room for SlowWays that use these kinds of paths, especially in rural areas, but it may be more slippery when wetter....

Walked from Llanfairfechan to Bangor, definitely started on a high and finished on a low with this route. The start all the way up to the spinnies was a nice adventure and a birders/wildlife enthusiasts/botanists dream, just a few bird species I saw without binoculars were; Skylarks, Swallows, Lapwings, Little Egret, Oyster catchers, Buzzard, Wren Fledglings so recommend bringing some for the the mudflats and multiple nature reserves/bird hides on this route! Then it leads to some paths which go through some pretty villages, the route from St Cross Church to Tal-y-Bont was an enjoyable segment as it’s through the fields, but walking through industrial areas were less so and a little unsettling if travelling solo....

This is the obvious route to walk ... but misses the opportunity to walk off road.. I would suggest that you could 1) follow the coastal path (great view), or 2) divert into Menai woods 3) or walk up via roman camp (again views!) 4) You could even miss out the section on Holyhead road by going via Brewery Fields...
