Help connect Arundel

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Arundel’s Slow Ways.

A really nice long walk (took me 28km and 6 hours including a lunch pause). - Some nice sections of the Monarch's Way, Serpent Trail and a small part of South Downs Way. - Former phone box near Sutton providing leaflets with local information and a large scale local map - The White Horse Inn in Sutton which looks like it would be a nice place for some lunch and refreshment (though I didn't try it)...

Very pleasant - nice stroll along the Arun with views of the castle, then a nice wander along the valley from Warningcamp into Wepham wood....

This is a lovely walk, along the Arun valley and up, over and back down the South Downs into Storrington (I actually did it in reverse, on 11/11/23)....

If I could, I'd give the first part of this walk from Arundel to Ford 3 stars and the second part from Ford to Bognor Regis 5 stars!...

Heading south where the path is closed adds km's to your journey, but will have you joining back up with the route the other side of the blockage. The only other small blockage we found was crossing the road at the roundabout on the A259, although works there were all but done, and we found our way across by a slightly alternative route easily enough....

Despite this, it was easy going, with only a small patch of boggy terrain slowing progress in Paines' Wood - I nearly made it back with mud-free trousers, but for one poorly placed boot disappearing into what was more stream than trail! No other access issues encountered, and there's only one busy road crossing (Chichester road on the approach to Arundel)....

I walked this route from Arundel to Bognor on 27-06-2022. From Ford the route heads across sections of the old airfield, across fields and around the side of old warehouses to reach Yapton....

This route is currently (20-06-2022) blocked along the lane between Lyminster and Poling at the Lyminster end. However in the long-term this will probably be the best walking route between Arundel and Worthing....

We walked from Littlehampton to Arundel after a couple of weeks of dry weather in April. At Ford the route passes close by the Ford railway station and a pub (The Ship & Anchor)....

Under the bridge on Bridge Road (A259) if it is flooded you may need to go up the bank and around but other than that the route was fairly easy to walk. It was a very pleasant walk following the river up to Arundel and then after lunch we walked along it back to where we started in Littlehampton....

This is a fantastic route which I have reviewed in full on route ARUSTO Two. The issue with ARUSTO One is as described by the previous reviewers. The bridleway as marked on the OS map does not exist on the ground....

The final section along the levee bank of the River Arun into the town is a beautiful finale. From the foot of Kithurst Hill, the route is straight up. The route itself from the top of the climb now descends gently for three or four miles to the village of Burpham....

I met up with my friend at Littlehampton station. We met three people walking the other way, from ARUNDEL to Littlehampton a cyclist and a chap with a theodolite. I walked the quiet route, into the town to see friends, I’d lived there for years, and then, exhausted, went to stand at the bus stop where I waited for ages for the late, once an hour bus back to Littlehampton - Evidently I’d just missed one and should have taken a bus time table!...

Most of this part was wheel friendly and fully accessible however on occasion it strayed on to the pebbly beach, but, you could easily go a little in land on to grass/park land or the pavement by the road without going far at all from the mapped route. Whilst the verge is wise, there is a cycle/foot path on the other side of the road and a safer crossing point which I would recommend the route is changed to. The route suggests going down a footpath down the side of the school....
