Help connect Alva

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Alva’s Slow Ways.

I agree with the other reviewers that it is possibly not so easy in places for all bikes, but a gravel/hybrid style bike would be absolutely fine, and the sections which are narrow and/or a bit less smooth (see photos) are overall pretty short and there weren’t too many gates. dull functional plod down the main road, and then through suburbs of Alloa to pick up the last part of the Devon way ( tarmaced old railway line). A quieter road leading from Alva to Fishcross to pick up the Devon Way at an earlier point, is presumably not recommended as it lacks a footpath although there are quite a lot of pedestrians walking to the residential caravan site on the road....

For those less interested in industrial estates following the road toward Menstrie another half mile leads to an improved path on the right which after following the road for a while , cuts east along the wooded north boundary of the bottling plant to join the access road from the North. Unfortunately there is no alternative to walking along the A91 to Alva (cafe, pubs, shops)- which does at least have a pavement...
