Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Jun 2021There are a couple of big problems with this walk and I will try and upload an alternative. The first problem is that west of Shipton the route relies on a footpath that doesn't exist. It looks like the compiler mistook the Parish Boundary for a track. There is no track there and a thick hedge prevents you from following the route.
If you back track to Shipton and then follow the road round to Abovemead Farm and rejoin the route you find your self in some very wet/marshy land (this was after nearly two weeks without rain) which is only passable with difficulty. At one point the footpath came to a bridge which had all but rotted away. Because of the lack of rain the stream that the bridge was meant to cross wasn't too deep, but after rain it would be impassable. It's a pity because the land the path went through was environmentally very interesting. However, you need to be appropriately dressed and fairly nimble (I'm 62) to get through this stretch.
The other problems come once you get east of Newton Longville. The route diverts off public footpaths onto tracks across the old landfill site. These tracks are not signed and there are many more paths than those shown on the maps, making it easy to take the wrong one. The route across this area is not the most efficient or straightforward. However, many of the footpaths/routes across this are are currently blighted by construction traffic associated with the upgrading/reconstruction of the Oxford to Bletchley railway line.
I will try and suggest a better route. This is fairly easy for the western end, but because of the construction work on the Oxford Bletchley railway line, not so easy for the eastern end of the route at the moment.
