Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

08 Jun 2024During our walk we met joggers, family cyclists (including young child), a mobility bike user with dog, "racer" cyclists, and other walkers including people with dogs. The route was a mix of tarmac (near towns) and slightly more uneven gravelly surface in countryside. Well sheltered by trees. Main hazard is a road to cross where traffic was quite fast without a longer view to see what was heading our way; other roads were pretty safe. Signage excellent. For accessibility: there are lots of benches! One real treat was cafe at our start point in Willington: Coffea Espression had superb coffee, and was run by a wonderful young woman from Brazil (who studied in the UK as a Biologist). It is right by the bus stop! Our route ended in Brandon, where we departed from a bus stop outside the Co-op.

09 Oct 2023I walked this from Willington to Brandon. Apart from the short walk ro the town centre this was wholly on the Brandon to Bishop Auckland Railway Path. I would reckon this to be suitable for wheelers. An excellent walk with shops at both ends.

29 Nov 2021Well marked and direct route for both cyclists and walkers (part of the national cycle network). Path can be prone to flooding after heavy rain on the section between Brancepeth and Brandon but is otherwise straightforward with gentle gradients. A short diversion is possible off the route at Brancepeth village to visit the castle and St. Brandon's Church.
