Description
This route is proposed as an alternative to Tredabe1, due to access issues with the mountainside paths between Cwm and the mountain ridge to Tredegar. It`s a hard walk with steep and narrow mountain tracks with lots of wet and muddy, sections and may be overgrown with bracken in late summer or early autumn. Once on top of the mountain it`s an easy walk along the Manmoel Road. The section from Abertillery to Cwm is the same as Tradabe1 and is an excellent and straight forward walk

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

24 Nov 2023November 2023. Direction: Abertillery to Tredegar.
The section from Abertillery to Cwm is straight forward and is a delight, especially the walk down into Cwm through the oak woodlands. From Cwm it was a hard slog up the zig zagging mountain tracks to reach the ridge. The paths are narrow, wet, muddy and very slippy, so care is needed. I had to jump a fence at the top to get on to the ridge side. From there it was easy going, eventually joining Manmoel Road (also called Heol Penrhiw`r Eglwys on this map), which is partially tarmacked, but a mountain top road with very little traffic. It was a day of low cloud, so I couldn`t see much from the ridge, but I would imagine the views are excellent on a clear day.
