Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

04 Sep 2023As others said the narrow lane no path section is hair raising - too much so for me - so carried on the signposted London Loop taking Royal Avenue rather than Barrow Road and rejoined at the Toby Jug. Added about an extra 0.5 km. I'm going to walk it in reverse from Tolworth and see what happens.

24 Apr 2022I walked this in April 2022 from Tolworth to Motspur Park. The key improvement since previous walks on this stretch is a pavement along Old Manor Lane/B284, so you aren't having to do that stretch in the road itself. Photos below. In general this walk has a nice green section by the Hogsmill parallel to Worcester Park Road, some nice art at Tolworth, and some interest at Motspur Park (Fulham FC training ground). The green section could get muddy after heavy rain. Not suitable for wheelchairs.

28 Feb 2022The route along the Hogsmill River off Old Malden Lane is inaccessible so follow Old Malden Lane (which has no footpath) until the Toby Carvery and turn off there.

24 Apr 2022Good news - there is now a footpath along the Old Malden Lane (B284). The building works have now put one in - see my review.

17 Aug 2021I walked this route from Motspur Park to Tolworth in August 2021. There is not a lot of green space on this route but that can only be expected in a built up area such as this. I also missed a couple of turns which meant I was on a road more than necessary.
The first turn I missed was near the junction of Portland Avenue and Malden Road. After turning right into Malden Road there is a road leading to Manor Park where you can walk parallel to the main road for a short bit.
The second turn was on Church Road B284 just after St John’s church. There is an opening on the left leading away from the road into a wooded area.
A bigger problem was not being able to find a footpath alongside the Hogsmill River between Barrow Hill and the Toby Jug pub.which meant walking on a main road, Church Road B284, with no footpath or grass verges to safely walk. A few times I had to step off the road for safety. This footpath is not shown on other maps either – see photos. The Hogsmill River Trail website offers an alternative route between St John’s Church and the Toby Jug pub https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/98547/ES-Hogsmill-River-Trail-Part-One.pdf
From the Toby Jug pub I was able to join the Hogsmill River Trail and be away from traffic – but not from noise due to the Kart Raceway close by.
Overall, an interesting route and once the section between St John’s Church and the Toby Jug is sorted will be easier and safer.

24 Apr 2022Agreed that there is no footpath alongside the Hogsmill River between Barrow Hill and the Toby Jug pub. But at least now there is a pavement/footpath alongside the road instead (Old Malden Lane, B284). The building works have put one in - see my review.
