29 Mar 2022Nice scenic route. Some industrial vehicles to watch out for, but footway on the majority of the route.

29 Aug 2021Walked from Southwick to Brighton on a Sunday afternoon in August, following straight on from SHOSOU One. I enjoyed this walk which is easy to follow and accurately marked on the map. I'd definitely say its better to do it West to East.
From Southwick Green, the route heads to the coast across the locks into Shoreham Harbour. The paths here have been built to be accessible to all and we saw them being used by a somebody driving a mobility scooter. The true meaning of Slow Ways became even more apparent to us, as we waited for boats to enter the lock before the gates were closed and the path reopened.
From the lock the path runs along the top of the beach for about one km, then moves to follow a pavement beside the road serving the Shoreham Port industrial area. As it was Sunday, traffic was very light, but it is probably busier with lorries and vans during the week. You could walk along the top of the beach, but it is shingly and you may disturb the naturists.
Once past the end of the harbour, the route changes to seaside promenade for about two or three miles to Brighton Pier. This gets busier as you get closer to Brighton, the final section shared with cyclists. From just before the Pier the path heads up East Street then goes through the Pavilion Gardens, then along Gloucester Place to Trafalgar Street and up to the Railway Station.
The route is paved all the way. The only obstacles are kerbs which are quite high in places in the industrial area. It is also flat all the way until the final climb up Trafalgar Street to the station.

20 May 2021Walked this route from Southwick to Brighton. The first part through the industrial area is actually fairly interesting, especially crossing the locks and there is a pavement/footpath the whole way and therefore fully accessible. One part diverts a bit from the front, something to watch out for and i have attached a screen shot - this i think avoids the shingle as we never came accross any. From Hove you follow the prom and then into Brighton Centre via the pavilion area which is better than the busy shopping streets. Plenty of toilets and cafes on route.

17 May 2021This route begins in central Brighton with a sweeping prommenade. It's very well maintained with plenty of places to stop for ice cream or food, as well as lots of public toilets. There's lots of life here with many dog walkers, some people on roller blades, other walkers etc. There is a segregated cycle lane that also looks well maintained.
As the route exits Brighton, it takes a route south of the canal which is an industrial area. This section is less accessible if you want the sea view. The road and pavement are sunk behind a ridge and whilst there are ample locations to hop over onto the beach, it requires a small effort. Later on (in a Westward direction) the ridge turns into a wall, the picture attached shows this stretch of the walk. Personally, I really liked this half of the route. It's more effort because of the loose stones but super tranquil with incredible views. Feels like some forgotten edgeland.
At the end of the canal, there's a pedestrian lock that will get you back onto the mainland, a short walk away from Southwick.
