Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

08 Dec 2022I walked from Shipton to Haxby on a cool November day with fitful sunshine. I found Shihax one to be a perfectly pleasant walk across farm fields and through suburban village streets, with half a mile on a country lane in the middle. The land around is flat so there are few views, but there are a few buildings of interest to look out for in Shipton, Wigginton and Haxby, and Wigginton boasts a delightful village pond. A very short detour from the route at around the halfway point will take you to the Moorlands Woodland nature reserve.
It was lovely to meet other walkers out along the way and tell them about Slow Ways!
The route map is accurate. Route-finding was fairly easy with just a couple of moments when I needed to watch carefully for the waymarks. The route is not suitable for wheelchairs/pushchairs as there are a number of stiles and kissing gates. I can't think of any other way of getting between Shipton and Haxby off-road.
