Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

01 Jun 2024I walked this route on the 1st June. The ground had a chance to dry out so mud was not a problem though this is obviously weather dependent. The route starts out following the shared cycle path (Keelmans Way) which follows the bank of the River Tyne. Just after Newburn Bridge you head across a small car park through a hedge and across a cultivated field. The path is looks well used and is clear. This is where mud would be a problem. You join a path beside a metal fence then head out across the beautiful Ryton WIllows. Once you reach the railway line you walk under it and up the hill into the village. There is an attractive village green. A short walk through the village streets takes you to the destination. There are no major issues with this route.

26 May 2024This route is fine in its own way but for most people esp those on bike or maybe not used to yomping through fields it would be better to follow the riverside route which for some reason is not shown at all.

06 May 2023This walk was OK but could definitely follow a slightly longer but better route. I would recommend following the river a little more to stay on a better surface as this route takes you through a very muddy field and through a gap in a hedge into a car park.
