Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

09 Sep 2022Lovely, varied route had no real problems except a slippery tumble in the water meadows of Grampound - a bit of slowways magic I did not know they were there until I walked prosta!
The longer stretches of road are effective at getting you from A to B and are broken up with plenty of interest. I agree with Everydayduffy's observations: do persevere looking for the footpath quitting the A390 after the field walk out of St Austell (I also walked this route in reverse) it is there - just a little further along than expected.
The path near the new houses is re-opened
Also, when crossing from the Trewithen estate to the gardens (again near the A390 but close to Probus) there is a gate linking the two without going onto the road verge. The path is overgrown so exiting and re-entering remains the other option.
Highly reccomended route.

08 May 2022I walked this route in reverse, starting in St Austell.
This is a brilliant slow way. I can confirm that the whole route was easy to follow on the ground and there were no issues with navigation. It was an interesting mix of lanes and footpaths, passing through the characterful villages of Sticker and Polgooth. Both of these villages had some amenities as did Hewas Water and Grampound, so plenty of options along the way.
Exiting St Austell was swift and satisfactory, cutting through the cemetery next to the train station, to then descend to the major double roundabout on the southern end of town. Entering Probus was ok, although the closure of road linking the A390 to Parkengear Vean closer to the centre of the village, meant I took an alternative route though a new build estate paralell to said road. It looked like a temporary road closure that should re-open in due course, at least to walkers and bikers.
A point to note is the lack of public footpath sign when coming off the A390 at St Mewan. It's easy to miss, but cutting across that field will bring you into an industrial estate where the footpath continues.
Another thing to note is the availability of a path in the woodland on the southern side of the A390 west of Trewithen House. To get onto the path, you need to walk a very short distance down the driveway of Trewithen House/Gardens.
All busy roads had good quality pavements, and I felt safe throughout the walk.
Overall this is a great slow way, one that is fit to join the verified network for sure!.

09 Sep 2022I wish I had read your review before walking this Everydayduffy! I too stomped up and down a bit looking for the path to the industrial estate and only after I had scrambled round the gate to leave the Trewithen estate and walk back in to the garden side did I see a gate linking the two. The latch in it was faulty and the path very overgrown but it is there. The closed road is open agian too :)
