Derick Rethans
15 Jan 2023I walked this from Harrow to Northolt on a Saturday afternoon, where it had rained a fair amount in the morning.
From Harrow-on-the-Hill station, the route follows College Road and the Station Road to end up on the bottom of a hill covered with grass (photo #1). Alternatively, you can leave the station at its southern exit, and avoid the slog along shops. That exist also handily has free public toilets, which I have used on previous occasions, when walking the Tube (https://tube.derickrethans.nl).
The path up the hill is steep, but it has pleasant views at the top — even on a dreary day as this one was (photo #2). There after following a little muddy path, the route goes straight up the hill to the church, with more great views, and then back down steps to end up at the North end of Church Fields, which you cross / slide down on your bum, to join the narrow and twisty streets of Harrow. If you don't care about the view and don't want to go up all the way to the church, you can walk through the bottom rung of the graveyard instead. Spookier though.
After having left Harrow-on-the-Hill, the route then proceeds along the busy Northolt road for a bit, which it turns away from just before South Harrow station. It proceeds along a recreation field — make sure you follow the public footpath on the other side of the fence, and not *into* the park, as you won't be able to get out at the southern end.
You cross the rail way and the Harrow sidings, and the rest of the route is along the busy-ish Mandeville Road (photo #3) to end up at the finish at Northolt tube station.
It's an OK route, with the best and nicest bits (and the steepest) near Harrow. The Northolt section is less nice.

10 Feb 2022I enjoyed this route- particularly the climb up to Harrow on the Hill. Lovely views from the park and benches to rest. This would be a tough walk for anyone with mobility challenges as the hill is quite steep. Mostly pavements otherwise with no obstructions. Fairly direct also.

19 Nov 2021I walked from Harrow to Northolt. There were some busy roads but not as many as I thought, and many of those were wide and tree lines. After leaving Harrow town center there is a steep (28%) climb through a park to St Mary's Church whose spire is synonymous with Harrow-on-the -Hill. There is a bench before and equally steep and muddy decent. The Streets of Harrow Village are picturesque and narrow. Then passageways, parks and wide leafy residential streets all the way to Northolt Station.
This is a reasonably nice walk with some pleasant surprises between two stations that are hard to get between by public transport.
