Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

23 Jan 2023 (edited 18 Jul 2023)This route is disappointing in a few ways but primarily because it's unsafe at the Gallions Roundabout, it sends you around the south eastern sides which appears to have dropped kerbs and be usable and then up the Royal Docks Road, the pavement, then verge both peter out and there's no way out but back. With those traffic speeds, lights and traffic volumes it is dangerous while there is a very safe alternative across the central island and then up the path along Woolwich Manorway.
I've uploaded a new route which is safe at Gallions Roundabout and has some other improvements.
There's an overuse of busy and noisy trunk roads when quieter more peaceful options are available. And Royal Victoria Gardens is not an exciting park, it can't stand up to the Thames Path which this route leaves after just 100 m. I did enjoy being *just* beneath the flightpath of a plane landing at City Airport and, later, Cuckold Haven Nature Reserve was a nice surprise, once I found the correct way inside. (Both these are also on NortBark 2.) After Cuckold Haven this route follows a bleak road under the shadow of the North Circular flyover instead of the creek/riverside but it does have a nice view from upstream at the old bridge, looking down the River Roding back towards the Barking Barrage and the houseboats.
