31 Mar 2023The route left Nelson along a fairly busy road, initially with shops. A ramp led down onto the towpath, which was quite pleasant. At the “turnover” bridge there was a cycle barrier. Later, there was also an aqueduct then some locks, before passing under the M65.
From here, the second half of the route was along the pavement of the B6347. This wasn’t too busy, but soon after passing the playing fields it was necessary to cross the road, as the pavement petered out.
A cobbled side street led to a safe, traffic light controlled place to cross the busy A6068, just before the pavementless road.
Walking up through the housing areas of Colne, perhaps the route zigzagged a bit more than necessary, but it did avoid any busy sections and managed to take in a tiny patch of greenery above the North Valley Retail Park.
This route was easier than NelCol Two, but that could change with a different time of year and weather.
