Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

23 Aug 2022Perfectly pleasant walk, but nothing special.
Walking from Mirfield to Skelmanthorpe you get most of the uphill done in the first couple of miles. Then it's mainly through fields - crops rather than animals. In dry August (when we walked it) the fields had mostly been harvested. One helpful farmer had even taken the trouble to mark the path across the newly ploughed field.
One busy road to cross at Lepton, but there are pavements both sides - and it's in a speed limit area (30mph).
Walk through the Lepton cricket/football ground, keeping to the left hand edge of the pitches (walking towards Skelmanthorpe) (I didn't see a footpath sign, but the route is clear).
There is a section walking on the road after this but it felt safe enough - the road is relatively wide with good visibility and a grass verge you can step onto if necessary.
The Emley mast is a good landmark, as ever and there are a couple of pubs just off the route if you need a break.
