Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

16 Apr 2024 Spring

April 2024. Direction: Peterston-super-Ely to Llantrisant.

The first fine day after weeks of rain, so it was inevitably wet and muddy. The first path out of PSE by the church is actually a stream (Photo 1), but it was passable with boots with a bit of stone and log hopping. There is a drier alternative from main road in PSE and up Ael-y-Bryn (street) then following the footpath to re-join the planned route further on. The first half of this walk as far as Groes-faen is the same as Talpet1, mostly fairly quiet lanes after the initial footpath out of PSE. After Groes-faen, it was mostly fields, although there was one lovely short stretch through woodland (Photo 2). The fields were extremely boggy and I suspect even after dry weather, there would still be some boggy patches. Hard going in these conditions, but a lovely walk. Easy to navigate - fairly well signed and some well defined paths along the way. Some of the styles were in poor condition in this second half of the walk, so care is needed here and there.
