Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

17 Jun 2023A fully accessible route from Litherland to Kirkby, mainly using the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
The route at the beginning at Litherland station does use a stepped footbridge, but this can be circumvented by travelling the opposite direction, around past the pub of the corner, where there are road crossings.
Tarmac and earth footpaths bring us into a paved road, and, once past a kissing gate, we enter Rimrose Valley. Well provided with good tarmac paths, but we're not in the County Park long, as we're soon on the towpath.
Along the way, it is a mixture of tarmac and earth footpaths, with only a couple of road crossings (ramped). Despite nearby roads, houses and industry, it's a green ribbon, full of shady trees and animal life.
Eventually, once past Aintree Racecourse and a brief riuralse section before the motorway bridge, we enter Waddicar, and after a couple of paved residential streets, the end is in sight!
A good route along an often peaceful section of canal, with good shops and transport at each end.
