Description
This is a slightly longer version which uses a disused railway track to reach the Leeds and Liverpool canal.
It fits better with the 'Community Rail Trail' between Wigan and Bolton published by the South East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership which goes directly from Wigan to Hindley without the diversion the Ince (see WigInc Three).

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

01 Apr 2024This forms part of the Rail Trail between Bolton and Wigan. The section between Ince and the canal is only included because there is no option for a direct Slow Way between Wigan and Hindley.
This route is very pleasant. It starts with a short section through fields close to Hindley station before joining a disused railway line at Makerfield Way. Note that a short detour here will bring you to the 'State of Kind Brew Co' tap room (check opening hours first). The path continues along an interesting section of the Leeds and Liverpool canal as a flight of locks descends towards Wigan.
