Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I'm not a local so cannot advise if there's a better route, but this one worked well. It is step free and almost clear enough to be wheeled (with off road tyres). The road and path out of Featherstone was clear and pleasant, and at the end of the houses you should follow the path marked Cutsyke. The farmer has kindly left a clear diagonal to follow. Unfortunately the din of the approaching M62 is almost enough to drown out the skylarks! Plus the path makes you walk beside the dreaded motorway for about 10 minutes. You are safely behind a hedge, but the roar of the heavy traffic is a real earsore (if one allows the word for an audio equivalent of an eyesore). The rest of the route is a pleasant pair of parks, with only a brief stretch of industrial ugliness between. The road into the centre of Castleford is quite long, but overall this is a good, recommended route.
