Description
I've tested the part of this route that overlaps RomSou 1 and AveSou 2 into South Ockendon. There were lots of lovely sections through country parks and public woodlands on good paths that were easy to follow, but also two serious problems.
Problem 1) The long stretch of road walking on Warwick Lane is uncomfortable at best, unsafe at worst, fast unsympathetic traffic, no verges, 40mph limit not being kept to, etc. See RomSou 1 review
Problem 2) The southern part of Little Belhus Country Park (east of the M25 and west of Ockendon Station) is not open to the public yet. It's not clear when that could be, maybe years. See AveSou 2 review.
I was unsure but hopeful about Warwick Lane when I uploaded this route but since walking I definitely do not recommend it, especially given there are untested alternatives. Likewise info about the extent of progress at Little Belhus CP online was pretty limited, that's why we test the routes.
There is probably a good re-route to avoid Warwick Lane although it needs testing too. You could use this route from Dagenham Heathway to the footbridge over the River Ingrebourne from Hornchurch Country Park and then use the new RomSou 2. If you test it but can't upload the route yourself, leave a review here which I'll get notified about and let me know. I'm reluctant to add another definite route which might then need further adjustment and generate "route clutter".
There are a number of possible places to stop for a bite, or for toilets. From west to east:
@ 1.5km Dagenham East tube station and plenty of shops, places to eat
@ 4km Co-op, cafe, chippy on Mungo Park Ave.
@ 10.5km Belhus Country Park Visitor Centre, cafe, toilets, where the route crosses Romford Rd.
There are also plenty of shops etc near Dagenham Heathway tube but just a chippy and 2 small shops near the South Ockenden end point - which is a little beyond Ockendon station.
There are several bus routes between Dagenham and South End Road (just before Hornchurch C Pk) but then no more public transport until South Ockendon.

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

06 Oct 2023I've tested most of this route from the footbridge over the District Line in Beam Valley Country Park at TQ51218528 to Ockendon Station, although I did miss a short section through Berwick Woods and along the roads to Gerpin Lane. I was actually looking for a new RomSou route, or just a small adjustment to RomSou 1 needed because of the problem going through Little Belhus Country Park in Ockendon. It turned out that there was another problem with this route - walking along Warwick Lane (near Rainham Jewish Cemetery).
There are two very big flaws so I can't recommend it as a full route but otherwise it's a lovely walk, very off-road, and surprisingly peaceful given the proximity to very urban areas and big roads. There's a project called the Thames Chase Community Forest, which has got various local authorities and other landowners working together to improve and join up green spaces around here and this route really gets the benefit of that. I'm very optimistic it could be saved by using a new eastern end through Corbet Tey and Sunnings Lane as suggested in RomSou 2.
