12 Oct 2021The walk to North Cerney from Cirencester follows a fairly clear route with a good quality path and only a few stiles. However (and this is not a criticism of the route which I think is the best currently possible) the 2nd part of the walk from North Cerney is not a s smooth. There is a short stretch near Hammerton Shed where one needs to walk along the A435, this is only 200 metres or so, but it is quite a busy road and the path coming off the other side is difficult to spot. Moreover the next 1/2 mile or so walking the Old Park was very narrow and overgrown. Finally down near the stream near Hackpenny Wood, it was very boggy and as this is only October I could imagine this may be more problematic to cross in wetter times of the year.
So I very much enjoyed the walk and would walk it again, will be less overgrown if more people walk it! I think the route is safe and reasonably accurate, though certainly helps to have an ordnance survey map to link it to.
