07 Oct 2021This seems to be the only footpath route between Cambridge and Fulbourn. It is safe and direct, and mostly hard surfaces. Other than central Cambridge and Fulbourn itself, much of the walk is not really attractive but is quick and easy to travel so potentially very useful.
The route is accurate bar one change. As mentioned in other reviews, where the path emerges beside the second level crossing beside Tesco Fulbourn Cherry Hinton a change is required. Instead, cross the level crossing and continue alongside the track using the path on the other side.

02 May 2021Good combination of urban, suburban and rural paths, some of it very beautiful. Watch out for a few very badly-maintained footpaths and also two parallel routes both called 'Fulbourn Old Drift' - rather confusing!.

02 May 2021At Gazelle Way, DO NOT take the footpath ahead - it's inaccessible and overgrown. Instead, take a RIGHT and follow Fulbourn Old Drift.

25 Apr 2021Please note when crossing Yarrow Road it is necessary to cross to the level crossing to the south side of the railway and follow the path beside Tesco.
A short 200m unpaved stretch east of Sunmead Walk ending in steps onto Yarrow Road can easily be avoided by diverting 50m north onto Fulbourn Old Drift via Rushgrove.
Cambridge to Fulbourn is almost entirely paved and much of the route coincides with a cycle route from Fulbourn into the city.
Look out for the following points of interest:
Mill Road, Cambridge – a street celebrated for the many independent shops and international cuisine
Cambridge Mosque, east end of Mill Road – opened in 2019, design by Marks Barfield (same designers as the London Eye)
Cherry Hinton Brook, Burnside – a small chalk stream where water voles and kingfishers have been observed
The Tins Path – runs past the former Norman and Saxon Cement Works, long since demolished leaving a legacy of fenced off back land and flooded chalk pits. ‘The Tins’ derives from the corrugated metal fencing backing The Orchard housing estate.
Cambridge to Newmarket railway – the route runs roughly parallel with this single track line first constructed in the late 1840s. There is still an hourly passenger service but the station at Fulbourn was shut in 1967and has been demolished.
Fulbourn Hospital Site – the path passes the hospital burial ground and the back of the former County Asylum that opened in 1858. Capital Park business park now occupies part of the site on south side of Fulbourn Old Drift and in 2021 work commenced to build housing on the Ida Darwin Hospital site to the north.
Fulbourn Windmill – prominently situated south of the village it is a smock-mill dating from 1808.
Fulbourn – retains many historic buildings, several pubs and food shops. The tower of St Vigor’s dates from the 13th century and the church contains a cadaver tomb and brasses dating from the 14th century.
