Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

10 May 2023Start of the route could possibly head up to the old railway path a little earlier, but difficult to fault a pleasant, interesting route that climbs up into the heads of the valleys.

29 Mar 2022The walk starts off on the main A4043 road, but soon switches to the less busy Ffrwd Road before the steep incline up Lower Harpers Road that takes you on to the railway path. For anyone with the time or the energy, it may be worthwhile taking a small detour when passing Viaduct Road (to the left off Lower Harpers Road) to see the Garndiffaith Viaduct. After joining the rail path, it`s a long, constant haul up the steady incline all the way to Blaenavon. The path into Blaenavon town crosses the railway line at Blaenavon station then left down the main road.
If you plan your walk for the right time of year and day, you may be able to finish off with a trip on the Blaenavon Heritage Railway, during the which is a 3.5-mile line through the the Blaenavon World Heritage site.
This is an interesting walk from both a nature and industrial heritage perspective.
